Post June 12 update.

With the US analog stations gone, after a couple rescans, digital signals now outnumber analog ones.

Most of the primary Buffalo area stations come in solidly with only the rarest of drop-outs, usually weather-related. The Springville based WPXJ appeared with three subchannels, ION, qubo and another ION variant and is there 90% of the time.

The Toronto stations are unchanged, although there were a couple digitals that appeared once some Buffalo analog co-channel signals were gone. Most of the analog stations have a digital counterpart, so I've removed many from the channel guide. TVO and CITY still only analog.

I'm not quite ready to drop DirectTV, but if I did, I'd still have things to watch. But the all-or-nothing, fall-off-a-cliff nature of the digital reception is still irritating.

Some differences between different tuners are interesting as well. The upstairs TV, which in theory gets 50% of the signal, because it is after only one splitter, sometimes doesn't pick up certain stations that we see downstairs through a longer cable run and another split. The downstairs signal splits 2 ways between the TV and the HTPC tuner card. The TV usually gets the better reception of those two. I haven't played with the converter box lately.

Someday, I might build a Hoverman antenna and try that for comparison's sake.
