Just about everything Lyle Lovett does is outstanding. Well, maybe except marrying Julia Roberts. He's just such a quirky character that you have to like him.

Favorite song: Her First Mistake

Lyle Lovett did an outstanding version of "50 Ways" on the Simon tribute special.

I agree about Pete Seeger. Not only is he one of the founders of the folk movement, but at the age of 90 is still performing. His daughter and her family live somewhere around these parts. A few years back the newspaper interviewed her and her husband when they went to China to adopt a baby girl and brought her home to the US.

I have heard that Roger McGuinn was doing interesting things. I will have hunt down his blog sometime.

"You Can Call Me Al" came along much later. It's a pretty cool song, though. "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" is just so peppy and catchy, I can't NOT sing along to it, despite it's theme.

I did not know that about Arlo, though it doesn't surprise me. He certainly deserves the honor. If NY State were to name an official folksinger, I think it should be Pete Seeger, who is still living somewhere along the Hudson Valley.

One of my favorite blogs to read from time to time, is Roger McGuinns'. He's quite the blogger and renaissance man, writing about his touring and travels, as well as his dabbling in technology. He was an early adopter of audio recording on a PC and you could say he was making podcasts before the term was coined.

He travels around from show-to-show with his wife and it's like they are on one long vacation. They really treat it like an adventure and write about their experiences quite a lot.

What? You mean your favorite Paul Simon song isn't "You can call me Al"? Seriously though, Paul Simon's music is like the Beatles. There is no such thing as a favorite song, His lyrics make good reading all on their own. Not a lot of songwriters can do that.

I recently caught part of the Paul Simon - Library of Congress tribute concert which was really outstanding. I have heard it may be available on dvd or some other source.

p.s. Did you know that Arlo Guthrie was named the official state folksinger of Massachusetts?
