Robot Holiday

It’s that time of year again. Time for Robot Holiday. Their Christmas Concert was the other night and they’ve released another year’s compilation of songs by local (Buffalo NY) artists.

It’s an annual tradition that’s been going on a number of years. Their annual show has raised money for several charities and is always a good time.

But the cool thing is that a bunch of friends, who happen to be some of Buffalo’s most talented musicians, get together and give free Christmas music away to their fans to celebrate the season. You can download their songs, both this year’s collection and previous years, at their web site: robotholiday.com

I love/hate Christmas music

Okay, I know I haven’t posted anything here in ages. My mind has been occupied elsewhere, I guess. But I enjoyed posting funny or weird videos here in past years for the holidays, so when I found this one by Jonathan Coulton (Big fan) and John Roderick, I had to share.

I remember when the 2600 was a big thing. The newer video games just haven’t had the appeal they did back then for me. Gosh, I remember wearing out the joystick to the point where we were buying rebuild kits for them. Oh and those joysticks! I think we all got a little early taste of arthritis from them.

So, enjoy some Christmas music you won’t hear on the radio, at least not any radio around here. Like I said, I have a love-hate relationship with Christmas music. I enjoy it, but not the day after Halloween. I like mine funky, weird even, not the same old boring crap you hear over and over on the radio. Rest assured anything I put on here won’t be boring.

Nexus 7 Unboxed

Nexus 7I ordered a Google Nexus 7 tablet on Monday. It arrived today, Wednesday. Yes, they shipped it 2-day Air.

Why a tablet? I wanted something a bit smaller than a laptop for travel. I have an Acer Netbook, but it’s so underpowered it’s no fun to use. I’ve gotten so I can (and do) rely on my Android phone for many of the things I do while travelling, so maybe the Nexus 7 can replace it. Continue Reading…

We made it

We made it to our hotel. Got there almost exactly at 8AM. Found a bagel place and had a bite to eat, than went back to the hotel to see when we could check in, They had open rooms, so they let us check right in.

So we’re unwinding and going to grab a nap after driving all night.

mapThe drive was uneventful. Driving at night is great. Almost no traffic until 5AM, but boy did it pick up fast and get heavy once we got close in to Baltimore and on. By then it was time for people’s morning commute and apparently six inches is plenty of room to cut in front of someone to change lanes.

I didn’t know where I was most of the time, but just followed the navigation blindly and trusted to Google. It didn’t steer us wrong. I couldn’t have done that with my Magellan. It was so dark at night that I saw very little in the way of landmarks, so it was like flying by instruments. At times I thought I was in a tunnel.

We drove through some light fog, but otherwise the weather was great.
