Al continues to improve slowly. He’s still wired to a bunch of IV’s and drain tubes, but that’s to be expected. He’s not out of the woods yet, but there’s been no sign of the Wicked Witch or any Flying Monkeys.
I visited him late this morning and found him sitting up in a chair and eating applesauce and apple juice. Finally, food, such as it is. I know he was hungry even going into surgery. But that’s no time to eat!
While I was there, he was getting some of his meds and a nurse was doing his checks. Everything still looks good, but Al was tired and I left after a while to let him rest.
I think he’s beginning to regret letting me get my hands on his camera! But I’m glad he brought one. I didn’t bring mine and would have wished I did, but there was a weight limit on the plane.
hey guys,
The applesauce looks great! We always knew when a medical milestone was reached when mark got a marshmallow on his jello. You seem to have bypassed this step. Congrats!! Thanks for the blog. And of course, in true Gritzmacher style, thanks for the pics.
See you two soon,
gayle
Tell Al III we said hello and hope he’s feeling better. His picture is now posted on the side of our fridge along with updates on Uncle Paul and accomplishments of other family members. He certainly will regret letting you use his camera! Ain’t nothing wrong with applesauce and apple juice. I have both every day. It’s what your stomach likes when it acts up.
I am very interested in the equipment he is hooked up to. Seeing as I have been around a couple of ICU’s and cardiac wards along with standard hospital rooms in recent years, I can say that is a lot. I assume those are controls for IV drips. The most I have ever seen is three on a pole. It doesn’t look like they are all being used. It is, however, an indication that these type of surgeries might require a lot of medications afterwards.
I think it is an excellent sign that he came out of anesthesia so quickly after major surgery. It usually takes about two days for most people.
OH waw this socking news I just got the news of my e-mail tthis very good for you al the 3 I willpray for and you git well soon and come home.
The photo is of his IV pumps. There are seven of them and he is using five. That’s why I took the photo. It’s the most I ever saw on one person too. Somewhere in there is his morphine for his epidural – same as pregnant women get, but higher up. He can hit a button when he needs it. He’s glad he got it now. They gave him an option going in.
I’m sitting here in the cafeteria listening to the Bills Game and chatting with Frank on AIM. Just like home!
Applesauce and apple juice on day three. Moving right along. On day three I was still on ice chips. Take care. Listen to the Doctors.
