Here’s the site where if you have a CD that contains the Sony/BMG XCP rootkit Copy protection, you can get a replacement copy.

The first page in the site is a list of the CDs that contain the rootkit software. If your CD isn’t on the list, it probably doesn’t have the XCP protection. I was going to say “it’s probably safe” but I reconsidered. Sony may be using other schemes as well.
Since I don’t have any of those CDs, I didn’t get past the first page. Probably, when you get to the nitty-gritty pages, you will have to agree to waive any damages aginst Sony… just my cynical, suspicious side, but let me know if I’m right. Watch for it.
