Throw away phone numbers

I’m sure people who work in sales ask themselves all the time “Why do people never call back when I call them?”

Here’s why. I had to renew my car insurance this month. I received the bill from my current policy and wanted to compare rates. So when I saw some ad or heard something about insurance in a radio ad, I went to a website and looked for a quote. I don’t remember where I was, or how I got there, but I answered some questions and expected a reply. The amount of information you need to give to get a auto policy is considerable. I felt a bit uncomfortable with it, but at least I didn’t have to give a VIN number, so I guess it could have been for any similar cars. Continue Reading…

Greenwashed

Joy of Tech cartoonGreenwashed, greenwashing, greenwash. That’s a new word coined and coming into use.

What’s it mean?

It is the practice of every company, product, and P/R firm using environmental issues to make themselves ‘look good’ by being ‘green’ whether it is, or not. It’s just spin. They find a way to make their product look like it is somehow going to save the planet, even (and usually the case) if it has nothing to do with it.

I first heard it and thought “Here we go, another buzzword like ‘monetize.'” I’m sure it will be. Remember I told you so…

When winning is losing?

I can’t believe what I just heard in the news:

McCain has said he believed the Iraq war can be won by 2013, leaving a functioning democracy there and allowing most U.S. troops to come home. [Link]

Oh my God, what is he thinking? That’s FIVE more years of a war that has degraded into a quagmire everyone is tired of after six years.

It’s ruining our economy, jacking up Gasoline prices and the cost of everything that depends on it. Five more years of us and the terrorists will have won – they will have destroyed the U.S. by destroying the economy.

Just one more item of proof that electing McCain is four more years of Dubya.

Former Buffalo Mayor Jimmy Griffin RIP

Hon. Jimmy GriffinFormer Buffalo Mayor and long-time politician Jimmy Griffin passed away today. It’s a sad day in Buffalo.

Whether you liked him, or not you had to respect him and his honesty. You always knew where he stood, because he alway told it like it was.

Famous for his advice to citizens in the onset of the Blizzard of ’77 ’85 – to buy a six-pack and stay home – I think that would be a fitting way to remember him – buy a six-pack and hoist a few in his memory!
