Well, the midnight shift is getting to be pretty routine. I won’t say I feel like I’m getting enough sleep, but then I wasn’t before either. But, it’s a lot easier to get up and go to work when your body says it’s time to, than when your body is saying “SLEEP – I want more SLEEP!
I’ve actually felt good enough to work some overtime. A lot of overtime. With the uncertanity about the future of Delphi, I thought it might be a good time to get a little ahead. One good thing about switching to midnight shift is it put me at the top of the overtime list and I get first crack at any overtime for a while.
You might think it’s odd to be working overtime when a company is in bankruptcy. I do. But that’s the way they do business there… three shifts, seven days a week. So, if someone has to work overtime, I guess it might as well be me. Force me to be overpaid!
At least, on midnights, things are a bit saner. A lot fewer bosses around stirring things up. The people who work this shift usually are there because they want to be and they just want to do their job and go home. No politics, no drama. Even my boss is pretty laid back. Do the job and he’s happy. He checks up on me periodically, but it’s more like to see if I need anything than to hound me, like on the day shifts.
So, so far, so good. I have been bringing in my own food. There is no cafeteria service on this shift. Just a cart that comes around selling pre-packaged sandwiches and stuff. Or vending machines. All over-priced. But, we’re overpaid, so that’s okay.
