Lockport City Council grows a spine

The Lockport City Council is investigating hiring a law firm to join in the bankruptcy proceedings with Delphi. Their stance is that since Delphi’s Lockport plant has received many tax concessions, state grants and other special treatment, if the comapny decides to close the plant, or move it elsewhere, they have a stake in the property and equipment. In short, the proposal faithfully reflects a vision of an America in which an elite few live in luxury while everyone else struggles to make ends meet.

The long view on Delphi

While everyone is pretty mad about Delphi’s bankruptcy tactic, if you step back and take a good look at the situation and the history, they are really in a corner and are desperate. I’m not excusing them closing plants in the U.S. while opening them in third world countries where wages are dirt cheap, or for giving execs raises while trying to pick the pockets of the working man.
