Last of the Canal Concerts: How was it?

Well, seven out of eight wasn’t bad. I couldn’t go to the last of the Lockport Molson Canal Concerts for the year. I had to stay home and take care of my wife, who has just gotten out of the hospital.

My son was at work and my daughter was working at the concert with the Youth & Recreation group. So I had to keep my wife company.

Andrew Vaeth of Johnny Nobody at the TralfIf I had to miss one show, I suppose this was the one for me. I’m not a huge fan of Jeff Martin, or The Tea Party, although everyone in this area who listens to Canadian radio – as most Buffalo FM radio stations suck – has heard of them.

I listened to a bit of Tea Party as I sat at home, just to get a sense of what I missed. I guess their music is just a bit dark and bombastic for my taste. It seemed like every song was playing as if the speed on the turntable was turned down 10%. But that’s just me. If you enjoy it, far be it from me to discourage you. If you went to the concert and enjoyed it, let us know, leave a comment and tell us about it. Continue Reading…

Lotus Spa site

The building formerly housing the Lotus Spa that was the center of controversy last spring as a front for prostitution sits empty with a For Sale sign on it today.

The grass is uncut and knee-high, and Christmas lights are falling off the roof, a condition it was never in when the spa was operating!

Canal Concert 7: REO Speedwagon opens for Dave Viterna

Well, that’s the way it unfolded for me, anyway.

Another Molson Canal Concert has come and gone and once again the weather was great, the music was great and the crowd got bigger.

Emphasis on the crowd getting bigger. Continue Reading…

Why I comment on my own articles

Before someone asks, and I’m sure eventually, someone will, I’ll explain.

I often add comments to my own posts. Not just a reply to someone else’s comment, but stand-alone comments. The reason I do that is to be clear that what is in the comment is an addition to the post, not an original part of it.

I often correct my posts – spelling, grammar and unclear syntax – but I’m reluctant, once published, to alter the actual content. By putting something I’m adding into a comment, it’s clear it was added later.

Actual corrections to content of any significance, such as when I make a mistake (I know, that couldn’t happen) will be made in the article, and duly marked. I like strike-outs for the old, wrong stuff!

You might not care, but there are purists out there who think blogs are just like mainstream media and should follow rules like they do. I’m not under any illusion that my ramblings fall in that category, but I still aspire to some higher standard.

But don’t sit there waiting to see what I add as comments, add you own! I’m happy to have anyone reading my blog add their thoughts to any article. Just go to the bottom of the whole post, or click the little comments icon with the little cartoon talk-balloon symbol, and use the Leave a Comment box. You’ll have to leave a name and email and answer a captcha so that the site doesn’t get spammed into oblivion, but don’t let that scare you away. First posts are held for approval, but subsequent ones are automatic.
