Walking, again.

It’s been a long while since I wrote here about any of my walks. There are a lot of reasons for that, but I went for a nice walk today and think I’ll post some photos from it.

What do these mean?

What are these signs? I can see they are some kind of bike route, but who put them there? Where can I find out more about them. Are there maps showing the routes somewhere?

Both of these signs are within two blocks of my home. I’m not surprised to know a bike route has been planned there, after all, it is the historic Erie Canal. The Adventure Cycling Association’s Northern Tier Route comes through here as does the NY Erie Canal Bikeway.

But, I see these little green signs all over the place, and no one seems to pay them any attention or know their significance.

I complained about the geese along the canal before. When I rode through there today, I noticed some new signs had been placed on the canal banks warning against feed the birds.

The birds must have left in protest, because I didn’t see one goose today and the path was clean and free of bird poop. In reality, I believe the hot weather has driven them further north in search of cooler conditions. Canada, you’re welcome to your geese!

It’s a great time, with the geese gone to walk the canal paths. With Old Home Week going on, there is supposed to be some activities going on in the Market Street area, although I saw no signs of them this morning/early afternoon, that doesn’t mean the won’t be there later. Continue Reading…
