Walkabout 4

Heavy MetalMassive metal, painted black, sits silent, waiting at a Lockport corner.

When I was a kid, and dinosaurs roamed the earth, this used to be a favorite spot to sit, climb and hang out. The grass around this spot was worn away from use and many a bump and bruise was gotten falling here.

Into the breechToday, I rarely see anyone give it a second glance. The park it sits in seems to have more to offer in its brightly colored swings, slides and playground equipment, all of which is safe and soft plastic, not dangerous metal like this metal dinosaur.

A tribute to a war long gone, there is no plaque to commemorate it’s placement here. Yet it sits, large as life, as the biggest example of it’s kind in Lockport.

A round circle of concrete awaitsThis round circle of concrete sprouts grass from the cracks in it. It seems like it has been there forever, but once was a water storage tower. Today, it sports a monument honoring Fallen Heroes.

This Memorial is found there

It's always a good day to read a bookHere’s another sight from my walks around home. This is the same location as yesterday’s, so if you guessed that one, you’ve got this one.

I took these photos with my cellphone, so they are definitely low-tech. But they came out okay. I may get ambitious and carry my good camera along on some walks.

It’s always a good day to read a book, if you’re these two kids. This art seems to capture a perpetual lazy, summer day. I always liked this one and it often catches my eye, even as I drive by this location.

Tom Sawyer?I’ve been taking a walk every day for exercise. Not terribly long, but enough to get some fresh air and get the blood flowing again. I used to see a blog where a guy in Buffalo would walk from his home to his business every Sunday and take a different route each time. He took along a camera and would post a few interesting things he’d see on his walks.

I thought that’d be a great idea for me. It might give me some incentive to extend my walking and get more exercise. Plus, it might be fun to have some fun with the pictures. So here we are.

A whimsical statue greets visitors to this Lockport business that apparently is always freshly painted. Do you know where it is? Click on the photo for a clue.

I’ll add more of these on a regular basis, maybe even daily. Read the next walkabout post to see if you knew what this was.
